Week 10: Bricks in Time

Build. Animate. Create Movie Magic! Join us this summer for Brick Lab’s Summer Brick Camp—a weekly LEGO®-themed adventure where imagination meets Hollywood! Open to kids ages 5–12, camp runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM, with a new movie theme or film genre each week to inspire budding directors, storytellers, and builders alike. In week ten, we are going back to the... future? Past, present, a whole new dimension where time loses all meaning—why choose just one? Campers will explore the limitless possibilities of time travel and alternate dimensions by building portals, time machines, and parallel universes. We'll learn how filmmakers use flash cuts, warp effects, and costume changes to indicate shifts in time or place—and then create wild, nonlinear stop-motion stories of our own. Campers will use LEGO bricks to build everything from miniature sets to props to minifigure actors—then bring their scenes to life with the Stop Motion Studio app. Each day, they’ll explore the magic behind the movies by learning: 🎬 Color theory and dramatic lighting 🎥 Camera angles and forced perspective 🧱 Set, prop, and character design ⏱️ Frame rate, pacing, and visual rhythm 🌌 Creative use of space, scale, and mixed media Campers will practice these techniques while planning, filming, and editing their own short sci-fi animations—building confidence in both engineering and cinematic storytelling. Of course, we balance all that screen time with sunshine! Each day includes a full lunch break and an hour of outdoor play at a nearby park to recharge before heading back to the brick-built studio.
